Why was my photo rejected?

Every photo gets a quick automatic check before anything is charged. A refused photo costs nothing, and we don’t keep it. These are the reasons a photo is turned away, and what to try instead.

Photos you need
Two photos: the survivor and the one who turns.
Photo files
JPEG, PNG or WebP, at least 256 pixels on each side. On an iPhone, pick any photo from your library.
Refunds
If the video can’t be made, its credits go back to your balance automatically. You don’t have to ask.

What does the photo check turn away?

The check looks at all your photos together and refuses them when one shows:

  • Someone who looks like a minor. We only make videos of adults.
  • A famous person: a celebrity, politician or athlete. We only make videos of people who agreed to it themselves.
  • Nudity or sexual content.
  • No clearly visible human face.

What do I try instead?

  • No face found: use a photo where the face is clear and facing the camera, with no sunglasses, mask or hand over it.
  • More than one person: use a photo of just one person. Each photo is one person.
  • Looks like a minor, or a famous person: we can’t use that photo. Pick a photo of an adult who agreed to be in the video.
  • Nudity: we can’t use that photo. Choose a different one.

Why won’t my photo even upload?

  • It’s in iCloud and not on the phone yet. Open it in Photos first so it downloads, then pick it again.
  • The browser can’t read the file. Try a JPEG or PNG.
  • It’s too small, or not a photo file. JPEG, PNG or WebP, at least 256 pixels on each side. On an iPhone, pick any photo from your library.
  • An iPhone photo (HEIC) may not open in every browser on a computer. Upload it from the phone, or save it as a JPEG first.

Does a refused photo cost anything?

No. The check runs before you pay or start a video, so a refused photo costs nothing. We don’t keep refused photos.

What if the video is refused?

The video model has its own content filter. If it turns the video down, we try another way of making it.

If the video can’t be made, its credits go back to your balance automatically. You don’t have to ask.

Can I use a photo of someone else?

Only of an adult who agreed to be in the video. You confirm that before the upload, and the check turns away famous people and anyone who looks like a minor.

Which photos work best?

  • Both faces clear and facing forward
  • One person per photo
  • Even light, no harsh shadows
  • Similar framing in both photos
Won’t work well
  • Sunglasses, masks or hands over the face
  • More than one person in the photo
  • Very dark, blurry or tiny photos
  • Anyone under 18, or anyone who hasn’t said yes
